Thiruvattaru and Thirupathisaram are clsoe to each other. Notably, in both of these temples, the presiding deity is not crafted from stone. The Thiruvattaru deity is composed of nearly 16,000 Shaligrama stones imported from Nepal, as indicated by a board on the premises.
During our conversation with the priest at Thiruppathisaram, he mentioned that while the primary deity, though not made of stone, has endured the test of time for over 2000 years, some smaller sections required restoration. Interestingly, there exists only one family in Pandhalam, Kerala, who possesses the knowledge and formula for restoring these unique deities. It took them over seven years to painstakingly restore a small portion of the damaged statue.
